I’m Currently Obsessed with the Nature of Time

Dear Kindred Spirit,

Lately, I’ve been completely obsessed with Time. Not obsessed as in counting the seconds and minutes and checking my watch constantly. But obsessed with coming into a deeper, more spiritual, and more natural relationship to the passage of time.

It started a few weeks ago, when I was leading a group ritual in a shamanic journey meditation. Deep into the experience I found myself sitting on a sundial. The sundial was huge, and I was sitting cross-legged at the edge of the circle.

Suddenly, the sundial started spinning rapidly, and I was drawn up into the heights of the atmosphere to observe the Earth spinning around, rotating on its axis, and orbiting the sun.

I was experiencing the rapid passage of time, noticing seeds grow and die and grow again. Noticing the cycles of my own life as I learned and grew and learned and grew again and again.

I was pulled completely out of the minutia of wondering what time it was and how much I’d accomplished that day, and into a cosmic experience of time as cyclical, abundant, and peaceful. In the meditation, Time was not something to be managed, but instead it was a beautiful and magical aspect of universal nature.

When I returned from the journey I knew my relationship with Time was the next place I was going on my spiritual journey. And since then, I can’t stop thinking about how I relate to Time, both in an everyday context and in the context of the timeline of my whole life.

I’ve been witnessing the sense of urgency and stress I bring to the table when it comes to Time. I’ve been doing energy healings around these points of stress, and I’ve been reading books about time abundance.

Has this ever happened to you? You’ve been going about your regular life, when suddenly you’re pulled down a rabbit hole of spiritual expansion and it’s like…ok, I guess we’re doing this now!

Anyway, this letter is truly a dispatch from the wondrous liminal, because I don’t have anything solid to teach you yet, but I want you to know where I am on my life journey right now.

Right now, I’m deeply contemplating:

  • Time as cyclical and not only linear

  • Time as abundant and not scarce

  • Time as your’s and not a dominating force

  • Time as magic and not only a measure

My mind and heart are reorienting themselves around dropping time as a measure of my value and self-worth, and coming more deeply into a state of trust with my true nature and with the universal timeline of my life.

For all the time I’ve been a life coach, I’ve been talking about seasonal cycles, lunar cycles, and what it means to live, create, and grow cyclically. It feels like I’ve been gently tapping on a large piece of glass with a hammer.

I am on one side of the glass, struggling with stress and shame around time, and on the other side of the glass, I can see how things could be if I embraced the true nature of Time as cyclical, abundant, magical, and my own.

Today, it feels like the hammer has tapped on the glass enough, so that it’s starting shatter, and I’m stepping across to the other side.
