‘Tis the Season

Dear Kindred Spirit,

My favorite witchy holiday of the year is coming — Samhain, Halloween, the night the veil between the worlds thins.

Growing up in New England, I knew this season by its gorgeous turning of the leaves, that particular smell in the air, apple picking, and the first cold morning that made you want to stay in bed a little longer.

Here in Portugal, autumn doesn't feel the same way. It's still in the 80s. The air's humid and rainy instead of bright and dry, and I don't reach for a cozy blanket.

But the light is changing all the same. Each day is a little shorter. Each evening is a little cooler.

And as the evenings draw me inside, I find myself amping up my spiritual practice with more meditations, visualizations, and tarot.

This year, specifically, I'm working on keeping my intuitive channel clear.

So much of what I create—the readings, the writing, this letter—moves through that channel. When it's clear, everything I offer is truer. So this season, I'm listening harder to my own soul and to what truths want to be revealed in the shadows.

And underneath all of this, I'm working on something for those of you who are new to tarot and feel drawn to see what it's about.

More soon, and happy autumn,

Emma

A small practice for the season

Pull one card a day between now and Halloween.

  1. Ask: What truth do I need to see today?

  2. Shuffle your card deck

  3. Pull one card

  4. Notice what feels true as you gaze at the card and read the description

That's it. Just asking that question and receiving an answer will start to open your intuitive channel.

Remember, you don't need to force a card to make sense. You're looking for what feels true to you.
